So I finally got around to listening to some recent vinyl purchases at the weekend, in between the usual Saturday chores with a hangover and being used as a human trampoline by a 2 & 3 year old all day Sunday.
Anyway I was sifting through my mini backlog when I realise I’d completely forgotten that I’d bought Jon Hopkins latest release Immunity and what a treat it is. If like me you love a bit of dirty synth mixed with atmospheric ambience, backed up with unsettling, scratchy beats then you love the latest offering from Hopkins.
Needless to say it was ticking a lot of boxes for me while enjoying a nice cuppa tea and a couple of ginger nuts (biscuits people, biscuits!). So with laptop in-hand I went for a stroll on da YouTubes innit to see if there was a visual side to things.
I came across the above clip that beautifully supports the sounds on the album and acts as a teaser for a wider audio visual experience Hopkins is currently touring as a live show. The amazingness really kicks in when you find out how they’re created in the really interesting film below as told by Hopkins and his collaborators, art director & typographer Craig Ward and biochemist Linden Gledhill. Well worth a watch!
Jon Hopkins will be performing his live audio visual treat to a sold out audience at KOKO on the 21st September, if you’re lucky enough to have tickets I’m very envious indeed.
