Time flies when you’re having fun!

Design Friendship reaches another small landmark today, as we celebrate our 5th Birthday.

Both myself and Nat would like to say a big heart felt thank you to everyone who’s ever contributed to the DF cause. To all our employees, freelancers, clients, suppliers, friends, family and those who are sadly no longer with us (but still keeping an eye on us), we appreciate every single one of you so much and couldn’t do it without your continuing hard work and support.

So here’s to the next 5 years, we hope they’re filled with just as much excitement and random potty-mouth-ness and the last 5!

Movember – Week 2

End of week 2 and the moustache growing is in full swing and top lips are being covered, combed and cultivated. Unfortunately we haven’t been equally as successful as each other in our tache growing efforts. James (top left) impressive Magnum P.I style tache and DF friend Jon’s (bottom left) expert face furniture have highlighted intern Craig’s (bottom left) somewhat patchy effort. In fairness to Craig he is the youngest in our group. DF friend Dean (bottom center) is aiming for the Daley Thopmson look. And me – I’m doing OK, I guess.

We’ve raised £250 to date. Fantastic stuff. Big thank you to all our generous supporters. But we’re still £500 short of our target of £750, so please donate and help us reach our goal. During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.

DF and friends are joining the fun and are making the sacrifice of looking totally pathetic for a month to help raise awareness of prostate cancer. DF in Innovative Stationery Graphics

Received the book “Innovative Stationery Graphics” in the post today which features some of our work. The book is by Barcelona based publisher Mosa.

Here’s the book description: “Innovative Stationery Graphics gather together some of the more interesting stationery projects in terms of those having the capacity to reflect the very essence of the company for which they were created. Some of the projects included on this amazing title are quite serious and loyal to the spirit of that particular company, while some others go much further and allow their creativity to roam free in favor of more impacting imagery. We present this book to you, but the projects will present themselves.”

Always nice to have our work featured in a book.

Duck and Cover 2011 Point Of Sale

For 2011 Duck and Cover wanted to produce two sets of POS, an emotive piece that engages their consumers, and a branding device that can be used as an on-going in-store campaign to help improve brand recognition and awareness.

The brief was to deliver freestanding POS that can work along side the seasonal campaign imagery and brand concept ‘Ready For Anything’, and to create a call out to Duck and Cover products in busy multi-brand stores.

The Megaphone – Emotive POS

DF created a memorable POS unit that the Duck and Cover target audience can identify with and that represents the brand personality and ethos:

• Be a leader not a follower
• Be pro-active
• Confidence to stand up for what you believe
• Be direct and straight-talking
• Be forward thinking
• Be bold and embrace difference
• Be ‘Ready For Anything’

Civilian Target – Branding POS

The Duck and Cover ‘Civilian Target’ is an ongoing in-store brand building campaign with the DAC device at the heart of the concept. It’s simple, bold shape and direct approach to branding takes inspiration from the Duck and Cover urban, utilitarian and industrial look and feel. Because of the simplicity of this iconic shape, the ‘Civilian Target’ will be used across a number of in-store display units, made from a variety of materials and sizes from concrete statues to brushed metal shelf riders etc.

La Maison Fontaine® wins yet again!

We’re happy to announce that our favourite absinthe La Maison Fontaine® has just picked up another Gold at the International Spirits Challenge for our design. News of this reached us not long after winning at this years Harpers Design Awards. This is what the judges had to say: “Really breaks the mould, well thought-out and very detailed, contrasting modern design with the wax stamp to bring in historical absinthe cues.”

Duck and Cover – A/W11 Campaign

Design Friendship’s third and final installment for Duck and Cover ATL campaign follows on from the S/S11’s “Rendezvous” story line. DF designed, Art Directed and produced the new Autumn Winter 11 campaign, “The Chase”, which is set and shot in a disused RAF base in Suffolk, a remanence of the cold war years.

The brief was to continue, develop and intensify the ‘Ready For Anything’ brand narrative DF created with DAC to engage and excite the 24+ male consumer.

As well as featuring in traditional press advertising and digital outdoor media, the campaign has been fully integrated to work both online and off-line.

Massive thanks has to be given to David Clerihew and the rest of the crew for all their hard work over an intense two day shoot, and an additional shout going to Jude Greenaway for audio and editing wizardry. We couldn’t have done it without you guys.


La Maison Fontaine® wins again!

DF are chuffed to announce that our favourite absinthe La Maison Fontaine® has just been awarded one of only two Silvers in the ‘White Spirit’ category, at this years Harpers Design Awards. Coming off the back of winning Gold at the Absinthe Masters, 3 Golds at the IWSC awards and the Golden Spoon at the Absinthiades, it seems that Sven’s got his hands full!

Duck and Cover – SS11

Following on from our last post… we’ve been so busy putting together the Autumn/Winter 11 shoot for Duck and Cover that we totally forgot to post about the launch of the Spring/Summer 11 campaign that we shot way back in October 2010! So without further a do here we are, currently in-store, we shot in the very glamourous Highgate Estate in London’s Elephant and Castle which sadly is soon to be no more if you like hanging out in apocalyptic concrete type environments. Weirdly we’ve just had sign-off this morning on the Autum/Winter 11 campaign images and the next episode of DAC brand film, which we’re very excited about, so we’ll keep you posted on that when we’re allowed to show you more. Enjoy.
